Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain and treat various health conditions. It works by stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities and restoring balance to the flow of energy, also known as “qi”.
Yes, acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner. Serious side effects are rare, and the World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as a safe and effective form of treatment. All needles are sterilized.
Acupuncture should not cause excessive pain. Most patients report feeling a slight pinch or pressure at the insertion site, but this is usually minimal and brief. Some patients may experience a mild aching sensation, but this is usually not uncomfortable.
The number of acupuncture sessions needed varies depending on the individual and their specific health condition. Some patients may see results after just a few sessions, while others may require more. Dr. Su will assess your individual needs and create a customized treatment plan to achieve the best possible results.

During an acupuncture session, Dr. Su will assess your health and determine the best points on your body to insert the needles. The needles will be left in place for about 20-30 minutes, during which time you may experience a warm or tingling sensation. After the needles are removed, you should feel relaxed and refreshed.
It is best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to your acupuncture session to allow easy access to the areas being treated. You should also avoid eating a heavy meal prior to the appointment.
Most people are able to receive acupuncture treatment, but there are some individuals who may not be suitable candidates, such as those with bleeding disorders or who are pregnant. Dr. Su will assess your individual needs and determine if acupuncture is appropriate for you.
